I would expect others with any model of Mackie Onyx starting with serial #003 to have the same successful experience. I am running the GA version of Mojave released in September 2018. Just plug in and it will show up in System Preference > Sound as a Core Audio device. I'm happy to report my Mackie Onyx 1640i (starting with serial number 003) continues to work great in macOS 10.14 Mojave with native Core Audio support. With the 2013 MBP I've used the TB/FW adapters as well as connect the 2013 MBP Thunderbolt to an Apple 27" Thunderbolt display and use the FW800 on the rear of the display to the 1640i. One is a 2017 MacBook Pro 15.4" Touchbar with Thunderbolt 3 and the other is an early 2013 MacBook Pro 15.4" with original Thunderbolt 1. No issues in Logic Pro X, Cubase 8/9/9.5, or Ableton Live 9 or 10.įor anyone working with video I've also tested with FCPX, Davinci Resolve 14 and 15 (latest public beta), and Autodesk Flame 20. I'm using the Apple TB > Firewire 800 and a cable that's FW800 on one end and FW400 on the other. I've tested with both the official Apple TB3 > TB2 and the Startech TB3 > TB2 and both work fine. Thunderbolt 3 > Thunderbolt 2, and Thunderbolt to Firewire 800. I've been using my 1640i on every version of High Sierra since the original 10.13 release and currently on 10.13.6.Īlso works great with Thunderbolt 3 although you need two adapters. I moved on from mackie as an interface a while ago but i feel for people here.ĭid anyone try HIGH sierra? 10.12?Works great using High Sierra. At least IT doesn't need driver support ! Its a shame as my onyx mixer is pretty good with decent preamps. This will be why they are so plentiful and cheap on ebay. I don't understand why they even sold them all that time if they didn't bother to support current OS ? This link appears to show mackie do not support past osx 10.8 and windows 7 :Ĭrazy. I contacted mackie about my onyx firewire card and they said it had never been tested on my OSX 10.7.5 then i found this… It would randomly cause no audio to pass and white noise = important session is game over, come back the next day and its working again until a critical point a few days later, then same problem again. My onyx firewire card is supported by core audio apparently ( see below chart ) but in reality it drove me nuts. Well in my experience core audio recognising the system does not mean it will work properly and is not good enough and not the same as driver support at all.
